In 2011 over 300 billion emails were sent EVERY SINGLE DAY, and over 90% of those were junk. It is no surprise to anybody that many experts are saying, email marketing is dead, this is due to the decline in average open rate over the last few years.

But before the obituary is written, let me tell you why most of the professionals are wrong. Sheryl Sandberg in 2010 predicted that email is going away, because people are spending more time on social networks to communicate and the prediction led furthermore led to the general predictions of death of email marketing. In above prediction what she failed to mention was that the figures she quoting abut were only about “teen demographics” and in fact, email use within a greater part of demographic profiles is as healthier as ever.
